Hong Kong, Part 2

Part 1

Day 2 was Sunday and we woke up early for poolside Tai Chi. An adorable tiny old man spent an hour teaching 5 of us the basics and taking us through a routine. Pretty fun way to start the day.

Hangin on the Kowloon waterfront

Then we made our way out to Lantau Island, one of the other islands that is part of Hong Kong (the largest actually). There we took a 25 minute cable car ride (great views!) up to Big Buddha (yup, that’s what they call it). Big Buddha is the tallest sitting, copper, outdoor Buddha in the world. That’s a lot of specifications, but hey, he was big. Also onsite was the Po Lin Monastary (partially closed for renovations).

Then we made our way to Tai O, a little fishing village where we wandered among the stilt houses and had a great seafood lunch.

After lunch, we started out on a 9 mile hike along the coast, from Tai O, back towards Tung Chung (where we had caught the cable car). It was reasonably flat, but long and hot. The coastline was beautiful, with lush green mountains everywhere.

"grave worshipers are advised...."

We watched the lightshow from the promenade that night, and then had an amazing dinner at Hutong a fancy-Cantonese restaurant on the 28th floor on the Kowloon side. Both food and the view were fantastic.
